One More For The Road

Posted on Friday 28 July 2006

Just in case you hadn’t had enough from the previous lot of crackpot October 2nd theories, here’s another one found on Matt Casamassina’s IGN blog, sent in by a reader named Toby:

It appears that the number of words in each sentence is significant. There are 19 in the first sentence and 26 in the second sentence. 2006 is the given key, so as 26 becomes 2006 then 19 becomes 1009. This gives us 10/09/2006 as the release date.

Normally I’d make some comment about the standard of readers that IGN tends to attract, but even Casamassina’s got the sense to be dubious about the existance of a code in the press release. Unfortunately, it doesn’t stop him from launching into his own self-important rant reasons why the date is a possibility though, which mostly seem to consist of:

  • Launching it on October 2nd would be “pulling an Apple”.
  • Retailers would like it.
  • He would like it.

Then he lists reasons why it might not happen:

  • Nintendo aren’t Apple.

And if that’s not the best Goddamn games journalism of the year, I don’t know what is.
