The console has seen a price drop of almost 10,000 yen, to just below 50,000, which is around US$429. That’s also still the price of two Wiis.
There’s no word on whether this will be picked up by Sony in other markets - in fact, it’s looking very much like it won’t be. Just another strange move from a company that’s made hundreds of them in the past few months.
More interesting, though, is the PS3’s Virtual Console-like service, which has the support of Sega and Hudson. I guess the temptation to make even more money from otherwise dead titles would indeed be too much not to jump on board. Users will also be able to download PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games, which seems like a really strange move - I don’t know how long it would take to download a game like Xenosaga, but I’m guessing it would be a day at least, even on broadband.
