I’m not sure why, but converting Zelda games to odd formats seems to be the new ‘Hello World’ for programmers these days. A few days back we saw the second demo released for Richard Meurling’s Zelda Mobile, a masterful re-working of the first Legend of Zelda with Minish Cap style graphics for your midp 2.0 compatable phone. It looks absolutely beautiful, and plays amazingly well for a phone game - you can check out the emulated PC verison on his site if, like me, you don’t have a phone capable of running it. He’s also doing the GameSetWatch interview thing with me right now, so keep your eyes peeled for that one.
Now, the ever-lovely Addicted Geek brings us reports of Revolution Software’s Zelda for TI-83+ graphical calculators. It’s not specified, but it seems to be a remake of Link’s Awakening for the Game Boy. The game’s the work of Spencer Putt, who has previously converted Harvest Moon to the calculator. As you can see from the gif above, there’s some pretty stunning camera work with this - unfortunately, the game’s only in beta so far, but it’s already a step above anything else seen on a TI-83. Lemonade Stand? Pffffft.
[…] Cinema Inferno WHAT? —- Public interest be damned, 20th Century Fox will continue to greenlight sequels. Why try harder when you can try again, right? 2005: Elektra Transporter 2 Star Wars: Episode III Cheaper by the Dozen 2 2006: Big Momma’s House 2 Ice Age 2 X-Men 3 Garfield 2 This past week, Fox announced its recycled offerings for 2007: The Hills Have Eyes II (Mar 2) 28 Weeks Later (May 11) Fantastic Four and the Silver Surfer (Jun 15) Alien vs. Predator 2 (Aug 10) Don’t ask and you shall receive! I can’t wait to buy the unrated DVD versions with no appreciable difference. Synopsis for the sequel to 28 Days Later: A handful of survivors begin their attempts to salvage a future, little realizing that the deadly virus is not the only thing that threatens them. The “other thing”? Israel. Leave it to MGM, however, to issue 2007’s most unnecessary sequel: Bean 2. I won’t argue that nostalgia sells, but who’s nostalgic for Mr. Bean? Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles comes to mind. —- + The Legend of Zelda for TI-83 graphic calculators 07.16.06 […]
[…] I’ve just finished another interview for the GameSetInterview series - I think this is number seven. This one’s with Richard Meurling, who’s working on a homebrew port of the original Zelda for mobile phones. I spoke about this a little while back, and I’ve since given the game a real good going over. It’s pretty clear that it’s not finished (it is only the second demo version, after all) but it still controls and moves well. The only bit I really can’t handle is the attacking noise, which, even after turning my speakers down still sounds like someone is being stabbed in the testicles with a rusty screwdriver. […]
[…] I talked a little while back about Spencer Putt’s awesome Zelda game for the TI-83+ graphical calculator, and I managed to squeeze a quick little email interview out of him in the past week or so. Obviously, one of the first questions I asked him was: how the hell do you make a Zelda game for the graphical calculator? Turns out, unlike what has been suggested by a number of forum members, it runs like a motherfucker. […]
